Running in Baghdad

I have taken up running since I started working as a contractor here in Baghdad, and I have discovered a few tips along the way. If you are a jogger and you ever decide to take a jog over here, here are some things I have discovered. 1. The jackals dont attack: The first couple times you spook one as you are running along the road it just about causes you to crap your jammies, after that you learn they are just as scare of you as you are of them. If you are lucky they might even stop to watch the dumb human puff on by. 2. Learn how to ignore the mud: This just goes without saying during the winter and spring monsoons. Almost any base in Iraq is one giant mud puddle during the spring and winter. And if you jog, it will be all over you. So, if fashion is a part of your jogging routine, I would suggest you skip this time of year all together. ...
