In a nutshell, second life (SL) is the adult version of myspace. Instead of "pimping" your 2d myspace page however you get to "pimp" your avatar (AV), land or both. You can add friends, mute them (put them on ignore), allow them to see your online status (or not), share content, create/join groups, and chat privately and/or publicly.
