Microsoft Putting Final Touches On ‘Culture Control’
Pings: 1 - Written by Jafo Wednesday, 17 January 2007
Microsoft is entering the final preparations for its Xbox 360 launch in China. Normally, the biggest concern in releasing anything in China is its lack of copyright enforcement, however the biggest hurdle appears to be how to control content. Sure, nobody knows what might happen to the “Free” Republic of China if they hear the Master Chief spout off about Democracy with his dual wielding automatic weapons. One of the biggest concerns is whether or not developers will follow suit and support Chinese censorship and modify their content for the Communist regime. Surely there is a lot of money to be made in the Chinese market, so will principle rule the day? Unlikely in this bottom dollar age, and it would appear Microsoft is betting that line. The roll out of the console is expected in the next few months.
