A man was recently arrested by the cops on a highway outside of Cairns Australia with a Blood alcohol reading of 0.301. the individual was traveling to his friends house in his wheelchair when he fell asleep in the middle of the highway. Sounds like his guardian angels were working overtime saving him from not only alcohol poisoning, but also from being hit by other drivers.Write Comment (0 Comments)

Running in Baghdad
Pings: 1 - Written by Dave Sunday, 22 June 2008
I have taken up running since I started working as a contractor here in Baghdad, and I have discovered a few tips along the way. If you are a jogger and you ever decide to take a jog over here, here are some things I have discovered. 1. The jackals dont attack: The first couple times you spook one as you are running along the road it just about causes you to crap your jammies, after that you learn they are just as scare of you as you are of them. If you are lucky they might even stop to watch the dumb human puff on by. 2. Learn how to ignore the mud: This just goes without saying during the winter and spring monsoons. Almost any base in Iraq is one giant mud puddle during the spring and winter. And if you jog, it will be all over you. So, if fashion is a part of your jogging routine, I would suggest you skip this time of year all together. ...Write Comment (0 Comments)

Relaxation... at the Spa
Pings: 2 - Written by Geraldine Jensen Saturday, 22 September 2007
This month I was going to write about relaxation techniques and the benefits of going to a spa. And then I saw a movie, which surprised me so much, that it made me realize people need to find a way to get through life and perhaps, through this phase called retirement. The movie I saw is called "Prozac Nation" based on the 1997 book by Elizabeth Wurtzel. In it, the difficulties of adjusting to college life are explored and the use of Prozac, to get through the roughest, are featured. At the end of the movie, it stated that 300,000,000 prescriptions are written for Prozac every year! Considering that the U.S. population is just slightly over 300 million, that number is staggering. One message was clear. There are times when people need help. There is nothing wrong with seeking professional help if one feels depressed. From there, the best course of treatment options will be explored....Write Comment (0 Comments)

Underground Railroad
Pings: 1 - Written by Karridine Thursday, 13 September 2007
The ex-Muslims in Europe who are fighting to LIVE as no-longer-Muslims have raised the question of what the Free World can do to support, shelter and encourage them... What do you think about an Underground Railroad? To move and protect them long enough to get them out of the Muslim communities they were born into and safely to a non-threatening community where they can work to support themselves and live a threat-free life? Change of Pace: Year of the Dog
Pings: 1 - Written by Karridine Thursday, 30 August 2007
Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners Ron, his wife, Lisa, and their little boy, Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle. I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn't do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home. As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker's family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away. ...Write Comment (0 Comments)

Things to Consider When Relocating
Pings: 1 - Written by Geraldine Jensen Tuesday, 24 July 2007
My goal this month was to give readers some things to consider before relocating, based on my recent retirement and move from Southern Michigan to Central Florida. However, as I started doing some research, I realize I am in the minority. In a recent AARP survey, it was revealed that nine out of 10 people over 60 will live in the same county when they retire. So, for that tenth person, here are some of the things that I have found .  1. Friends and Family- 34% of the people surveyed wouldn’t move because they want to stay close to their family and friends. This was definitely the most difficult part of the move for me. I would advise making a plan that includes frequent visits to family and friends and mandatory visits to you. We had a long-standing tradition of celebrating New Year‘s Eve with our dearest friends. We still do, but now they fly down to Florida and greet the new ye...Write Comment (0 Comments)

Summer Retirement
Pings: 1 - Written by Geraldine Jensen Tuesday, 26 June 2007
Summer takes on a new meaning in retirement.  No longer do you look forward to having a few weeks off in the summer to rejuvenate your mind and body, helping you to  return to work with a new attitude.  You are literally on vacation every day and it seems more and more people are having a problem with that.  A recent AARP Survey says a growing number of retirees say retirement will include some form of work.             So what does summer mean for these people?  It means you better brush up on your computer surfing skills if you are going to compete with the younger generation in finding summer employment. Low unemployment and high demand can make this summer a time to pursue a job. Some mainstream sites include CareerBuilder.com and Monster.com.  Diane Domeyer, executive director for Office Team at Robert Half International,  suggests researc...Write Comment (0 Comments)

Breast Augmentation - New Boobies or No New Boobies? That is the Question.
Pings: 1 - Written by JoAnn Roselli Friday, 08 June 2007
Breast augmentation, i.e. implants, have long been a focus of controversy. More than 1.5 million women have them and it is safe to guess that at least the same number of women are thinking about getting them. It is true that they can dramatically improve the feminine figure...but is it worth it? Well, everything is relative and I dare say that most women who have gotten them are pleased with the results. Entire careers have been built on them (can anyone say "Pamela Anderson"). My aim for this article is not to judge their worthiness, for that is purely up to the individual. I would like to share a little known scientific study that I discovered. Because of reasons that were purely political, the results of this publicly funded study were never made public, but the surprising results will alleviate the fears of many women who either have breast implants or are considering them. Everything You Need to Know Before Your Tummy Tuck Surgery
Pings: 1 - Written by JoAnn Roselli Wednesday, 06 June 2007
What Exactly Is a Tummy Tuck? A tummy tuck is a procedure whereby a horizontal incision is made in a "French bikini" line across the lower abdomen, sort of like a smile. The incision is much similar to that of a Cesarean section. Usually, this is used in combination with liposuction, both suctioning and excising (cutting out) layers of fat from the lower and sometimes upper abdomen. The surgery is done under general or epidural anesthesia. Most surgeons "tighten" the stomach muscles themselves using sutures in a corset fashion. Several inches of skin and flab from the lower abdomen are removed, usually including any stretch marks. What About My Belly Button? Where Will It End Up? The incision is closed and a new "belly button" is created by cutting a hole in the area where the old belly button was and suturing the edges. When done with care, the new belly button loo...Write Comment (0 Comments)

March-April and May
Pings: 1 - Written by Geraldine Jensen Thursday, 17 May 2007
Life is better, a slow steady weight loss, one to two pounds a week. I find a 1,200 to 1,500 calorie diet is working best. Most medical experts would agree that one of the best ways to improve your health is to reduce your sugar intake. Doing this can help decrease one's chances of getting diabetes and being overweight or obese---both epidemics in this country with adults and children alike. i find Stevia really helps, especially with low cal desserts Get 1000 low carb Atkins Diet recipes for free You want the process to go as smoothly as possible. You don't want to be thrown off guard by roadblocks you didn't anticipate. You want very much to succeed and making your own clear, specific plan of action will get you there. Spicy Baked Ginger Chicken Recipe
Pings: 1 - Written by Daryl W.T. Lau Wednesday, 21 March 2007
This Spicy Baked Ginger Chicken recipe is for me a Malaysian version of Buffalo Wings but in this instance I used a whole chicken instead of just wings although you can just use wings if you prefer them. The secret to this recipe is not to be stingy with the sauce during baking but be wary not to make it too wet cause I find it tastier by having it slightly more on the dry side.Write Comment (0 Comments)

Get your child the help it deserves
Pings: 1 - Written by Melissa Moreno Sunday, 25 February 2007
If you’re looking for professional help with your kids maybe Thailand is not the best solution for them. There is no real “shrinks” in Thailand but you will go to the temple to talk or get comforts. Because Thai people do not believe in conflicts that much it is difficult to get help when the children have for example behavioral problems. If the worst come to the worst and your child is starting to take drugs then you should get help with teen drug treatment. Echo Malibu can help you with this kind of things and if your family is from the USA then you should really try to get outside help. Echo Malibu can support and help you 24 hours a day and have experience in teen disorder and drug related problems. The staff is very competent and there are plenty of skilled professionals to help you your child in anyway possible from massage to music therapy. They can also help your family ...Write Comment (0 Comments)

Misdiagnosed
Pings: 1 - Written by Dave Tuesday, 20 February 2007
Recently I started seeing a new doctor for depression. I was diagnosed with depression over 10 years ago by a psychological counselor, and I have been on one med or another ever since. When I was originally diagnosed and my family and I started looking into the symptoms of depression it seemed at the time like it was something I had been living with since I was a baby, so of course medication to treat the illness seemed like the natural course to take. 2 weeks ago, since my meds were running out and I was not at all happy with the psych nurse I was seeing I decided to once again try a new doctor. I went to this doctor because over the past twor or three years I have begun experiencing a number of new issues in my life and over the past year and a half they have become life changing. When I first started taking depression meds loss of sex drive was a major bummer, however, in the pa...Write Comment (0 Comments)

Fizzy drinks, an alternate point of view
Pings: 1 - Written by Andrew Hemings Sunday, 18 February 2007
I’ve been leading a changed and much healthier lifestyle. Yet, despite my ever increasing protests, Katie, my youngest daughter is an avid drinker of Coca Cola. So I did a little research into the impact that the daily litre she consumes has, in a vain hope that she might change to water or at least diet cola. When you drink a cola, or in fact any other non-diet carbonated flavoured drink, your body is hit with about 60ml or 10 teaspoons of sugar for every 350ml consumed. Under normal circumstances, your body would react negatively to this. However we don’t immediately vomit from all this extra sugar because the phosphoric acid cuts the flavour back allowing us to keep it down. Your blood sugar level spikes, creating insulin burst. To which your liver responds, by turning any sugar into fat. The caffeine is absorbed by your body, causing your pupils to dilate, and your blood pr...Write Comment (0 Comments)
