When I first began reading about the Midwest drownings, I was admittedly doubtful of the serial killer angle. Although 40 men had gone missing or drowned in the past decade, alcohol seemed the logical explanation. Nonetheless, the serial killer angle was worth exploring. Even if only due to the alleged concentration of missing or drowned men around www.shadowraiths.net/?p=54|Corridor 94.
To avoid my own biases, confirmatory, sample or otherwise, I ran several search combinations involving missing students as well as drownings, in an attempt determine if a pattern did indeed exist. Interestingly, or perhaps not so, college-aged females appear to be largely exempt from this particular category. Furthermore, the resulting crime map shows a Midwest concentration (77%). And finally the data reveals approximately half of all unexplained drownings (n=43) involved alcohol (56%) a...Write Comment (0 Comments) |

boy scouts in Los Angeles can earn a brand new activity patch in " gibberish, doublespeak, denial and bullying techniques"
thats right the MPAA has partnered with the Boy scouts to educate children about the dangers of audio and video piracy.
"Working with the Boy Scouts of Los Angeles, we have a real opportunity to educate a new generation about how movies are made, why they are valuable, and hopefully change attitudes about intellectual property theft," Dan Glickman, chairman of the Motion Picture Association of America, said in a statement Friday.
Scouts will be instructed in the basics of copyright law and learn how to identify five types of copyrighted works and three ways copyrighted materials may be stolen.
Scouts also must choose one activity from a list that includes visiting a movie studio to see how many people can be harmed by film piracy. They also can crea...Write Comment (0 Comments) |

Commuters sweated on their way to work Wednesday as the temperature and humidity started climbing back up to heat wave levels after a night of little relief.
The National Weather Service posted heat advisories and warnings from Maine to Oklahoma. Triple-digit temperatures were forecast Wednesday along the East Coast as far north as parts of Maine and New Hampshire.
The temperature was already above 80 before dawn Wednesday at Nashua, N.H. New York's LaGuardia Airport still had 92 degrees at midnight and eased only to 86 degrees by 6 a.m., the National Weather Service said. In the heart of crowded Manhattan, the low at Central Park only got down to 83.
In the stifling subway tunnels, there was no air conditioning on three cars of the train Sayed Bukhari rode into Manhattan. "People were crying," Bukhari said.
"You don't beat it," workman Frank Kenney, 40, said Tuesday i...Write Comment (0 Comments) |

While the United States was introduced to ritual murders via cult dabblers, and basically, rather psychotically sociopathic individuals, beginning in the 1960s, it was not until the early 1980s that allegations of ritual murder began to evolve, indicating that a far more sinister plot might be afoot. On August 11, 1983, 79 year-old Virginia McMartin, 59 year-old Peggy Buckey, and 28 year-old Ray Buckey were accused of sexually abusing and torturing children in Satanic rites at their Manhattan Beach daycare center. Although the McMartins were eventually acquitted, some parents still believe their children had been sexually abused during Satanic rituals.
The most compelling evidence for the parents' contention involved purported venereal diseases that some of the children were alleged to have contracted along with Roland Summit's tunnel excavation report (now known as the Summit r...Write Comment (0 Comments) |

The tragic news about the murder of 25 year-old Trish Dawn Lam, her husband 30 year-old Phuong Hung Le, and her son, 6 year-old Tommy, of Garden Grove California broke on June 30, 2006. While Lam's 10 month-old daughter, Kaitlyn had survived the slaughter, it would be 3 days before someone found the infant who had been beaten and left for dead. I wrote a brief article titled shadowraiths.net/?p=60|Dead Money.
There was scant information on June 4th, outside of the, by then, rumor circulating through the blogsphere regarding minister turned pornographer, Tyce Bune, and his Dusk Til' Dawn Productions (not linked for obvious reasons). A quick google search revealed Tamara's MySpace Events calendar, which pretty much ruled out the Bune connection. But the information highway does tend to have a life of its own. The resulting chatter garnered a rather miffed response from Mr. Bune, ...Write Comment (0 Comments) |

Yet another important speech has been given by Norman Y. Mineta, df, before the prestigious U.S. Chamber of Commerce, in Washington D.C., at 11 AM, today July 6th, 2006.
The tone was resolutely engaging and the crowd listening to this speech meant business, big infrastructure development business. Most experts agree Mr Mineta want to help the American transports industry as well as the already stressed out commuters, especially in dense urban areas.
"Thank you very, very much everybody. I appreciate it. I want to thank my very, very good friend, Tom Donohue, for that kind and wonderful introduction. Tom and I have been friends for some 30 years. My wife Deni and I very much appreciate our friendship with Tom and Liz and I, especially, am grateful for Tom's advice. And my thanks to Tom and to the members of the United States Chamber of Commerce for everything that you do to keep o...Write Comment (0 Comments) |

Although the BDSM subculture has been with us for well over two centuriesat least in theoryit was not until the last half of the 20th century, that it seemed to take root and blossom, in the form of codes of conduct and identifying attire. The gay leather scene (also known as the old leather guard) was an outgrowth of returning WW-II veterans. Some, who had left as boys and came back as men, and those who did not return in flag adorned coffins sometimes returned to an empty home, or no home at all, with nothing really left but the gore that would dance through their nightmares. As with all experiences, the ties that bind are often a shared history. In this case, it was a shared war whose casualties were a stark reminder to those who experienced dark night of soul in an up close and personal way. And it was during the postwar era from whence the old leather guard sprouted.

Today the U.S. Supreme Court released their decision on the constitutional validity of military tribunals held for prisoners in Guantanamo Bay. The challenge was put forth specifically with respect to the case of one detainee, Salim Hamdan, but the court's ruling has widespread implications for how similar cases will be handled in the future. From the article:
"We conclude that the military commission convened to try (Salim Ahmed) Hamdan lacks power to proceed because its structure and procedures violate" the international agreement that covers treatment of prisoners of war, as well as U.S. military laws, Justice John Paul Stevens wrote for the court majority in the 5-3 decision.
Earlier this month, Bush said that he wants to get rid of the Gitmo, but Washington bigwigs were reportedly waiting to see the outcome of this case. Now that it's here, is it possible that we might beg...Write Comment (1 Comments) |

The Supreme Court has had divisive rulings this year on the environment, police power and whistleblowers, and the justices are not even through with their hardest cases.
The high court is on a tight deadline to finish before July, when justices begin a three-month break that provides time for traveling, teaching classes, writing books and relaxing.
As usual, justices have left some of the most significant cases to the very end. There are 10 rulings left, on issues from a president's wartime powers, capital punishment, Texas' political boundaries and the insanity defense.
The past year has been a time of change. Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist died and a protege, his former law clerk John Roberts, succeeded him.
In addition, the influential Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, the first female justice, retired. She was replaced in January by Samuel Alito.
Justice Anthony M. K...Write Comment (0 Comments) |

This is awesome news for tens of thousands of Utah commuters as the State receives what is arguably the biggest transportation grant ever. Less pollution, less delays and a streamlined train ride, for people moving from city to city, will make the whole corridor a lot more enjoyable.
Salt Lake City area commuters got a big boost as U.S. Secretary of Transportation Norman Y. Mineta sealed an agreement with the Utah Transit Authority for $489 million in federal funding for the “FrontRunner” Weber County-to-Salt Lake City Commuter Rail line.
The money will be used to build the new 44 mile commuter rail line that is expected to carry almost 12,000 weekday passengers taking nearly 6,000 cars off the roads everyday Mineta said during a visit to the Farmington Station construction site this afternoon.
“Because it runs parallel to I-15, this rail line offers a common-sense solution to ...Write Comment (0 Comments) |
