Martin McKeay leaving Cobia
Pings: 1 - Written by chris harrington Thursday, 05 July 2007
I read this morning on Martin McKeay's blog that he has resigned as Product Evangelist for Cobia, StillSecure's open source (yes I consider it open source) networking platform. Martin does a good job describing the frustration many face in going from an engineering / tech role to a marketing or sales role. Let's face it, every product has problems or shortcomings and I'm sure that Cobia is no different. It can be difficult when you know what those issues are but cannot openly discuss those with potential customers, press, analysts, VC's , etc. It's even more frustrating when a someone zero's in on one of those shortcomings during a conversation or pitch. The first time I remember that happening was when I was an SE for a PKI company. My heart jumped up into my throat when I heard the sales person bring up a "feature" in the product that wasn't there yet.  I knew we were hea...Write Comment (0 Comments)

Will iPhone support Exchange?
Pings: 1 - Written by chris harrington Saturday, 30 June 2007
I've been following the press regarding the iPhone, as are many others. I'll go on record as saying that damn thing is cool. If it supported Exchange I probably would have been one of those enthusiasts (or idiots depending on your POV) standing in line all night to get one. The reality is that they do not support Exchange. And when I say support Exchange I don't mean can it POP / IMAP off Exchange. I mean native Exchange support for calendaring, public folders, OMA, etc. My corporate live revolves around Exchange and mobility is a big part of that. I saw this post from Mary Jo Foley at Zdnet this morning. The June 28th Rollup fixes for Exchange 2007 have a fix for an issue with IMAP version 4 compatibility. Word on the street is that this will fix issues with iPhone and Exchange from an IMAP standpoint. In that same post is a quote from an analyst at the Burton Group that ...Write Comment (0 Comments)

How to find a good keyword?
Pings: 1 - Written by Melissa Moreno Thursday, 28 June 2007
How to find a good keyword? I write a lot about taxes, loans, money and tax refunds on my blogs. People pay me off course to write about those things but I am seriously thinking of opening a blog about money because there is so many people requesting reviews and articles about this subject. You will find popular keyword in you daily life on TV, newsmagazines and off course internet. Some keywords are easy to spot like Paris Hilton and iPood telephone and some need a trained eye to find. But if you are not so experienced webmaster you can start writing about things you like there is always someone else that likes the same things as you. Write Comment (0 Comments)

Be careful when you buying Page Rank
Pings: 1 - Written by Melissa Moreno Thursday, 28 June 2007
There are a lot of people selling PageRank domains and also people selling free link backs if you review the page they have. If you review the specific website and link back to their specific keyword will get a boost and also the PR of course. But are you sure your blog or site will benefit from this? Many people buy back links with a high PR and then they sell the domain as a high ranking domain but it actually not. Check the links the domain have before you buy the domains or the PR. In the same way people are giving away free link back to their lets say PR7 and maybe they have PR1. They just do a bluff and many people will go for it without even checking that the page actually has any PR what so ever. Off course they can buy back links and get a good PR and then hope that when they get all this free reviews the PR will actually stay. Finally do not fall for this predicated ...Write Comment (0 Comments)

Is it always a good idea to use outsource webmasters?
Pings: 1 - Written by Melissa Moreno Thursday, 28 June 2007
Is it always a good idea to use outsource webmasters? Asian webmasters are very popular to use right now but is it always a good idea to use outsource webmasters? No it is not for some work you really need the webmaster with the same background and education level as you. I am not telling you that Asian webmasters for example are worse then Western I just saying they think in a different way. For example Asian people are very often used to copy what you say to them or do what they are told rather then think for themselves. If you ask them to copy something and make it look like your site, you might end up with other names and phone numbers then your own because the webmaster just copy the hole thing. Another scenario is they will work for 1 month with the script or site and you wasted your time and they you think wasted yours. Everything in the script looks great then you sees...Write Comment (0 Comments)

Make sure your new script will work on the server
Pings: 1 - Written by Melissa Moreno Wednesday, 27 June 2007
Before you make a script make sure that your hosting will accept the coding your webmaster will do. Different webmaster do different things and some of the things some webmasters do will only work on for example dedicated servers and not shared once. The shared servers have more security and do not want to do for example YouTube script because they suck up a lot of CPU power. Since you all sharing the same CPU it would not be fare to the other people on the shared server. Some scripts are coded and some shared servers like Host Gator does not accept that they say it is insecure. So next time you want to create a script or buy one coordinate with your server and webmaster or script seller it will be worth the extra time. Write Comment (0 Comments)

My mother got a Vista computer
Pings: 1 - Written by Melissa Moreno Wednesday, 27 June 2007
I bought a HP computer ready to be installed in Sweden with the Vista Basic. It was a good computer and the Vista system sucked up as much memory as everybody has told me it would. The system is pretty secure and easy to understand and will warn you all the time and it will also fix it self when it has problem. The error reporting for problem works but there is no suggestion for you check when the computer restarts and it is pretty irritating. The other thing that I did not like was that most software and hardware had problem with Vista. Not many gadgets are tuned up for Vista and it needs a lot of extra work to find the right fixes and patches, nothing for the beginner like my mum. I will upgrade to Vista when I buy my new computer in a about 6 month then I guess the software and hardware problem will be fixed. Write Comment (0 Comments)

Cell phone virus writer arrested in Spain
Pings: 1 - Written by chris harrington Tuesday, 26 June 2007
Spanish police arrested a 28 year old man for writing several variants of the Cabir and Commwarrior viruses. These viruses targeted the Symbian operating system which is a popular cell phone OS. It was spread through Bluetooth connections. They are reporting that over 115,000 phones were infected. How did they catch him? He put his fiance's name in the source code. When will malware authors stop putting personally identifiable information in their malware? I hope never.....Darwin was right. http://www.whitedust.net/speaks/3905/Spanish%20police%20pinch%20cell%20phone%20hacker/ --Chris [TAGS] cell phone, virus, Cabir, Commwarroir, 29a, malware [/TAGS]Write Comment (0 Comments)

Thailand to unblock Youtube maybe
Pings: 1 - Written by Melissa Moreno Tuesday, 26 June 2007
Thailand unblocks Youtube or at least they are thinking of it. The Minister of It in Thailand (you know that one that only look at 2 websites) have told the press that he is going to leave it to the court to block sites. He say that he only blocked about 200 sites but other sources say over 10 000 sites. This is good news for YouTube that have been blocked in Thailand for a long time now. Write Comment (0 Comments)

Will i manage to get PR5 or is it to late
Pings: 1 - Written by Melissa Moreno Monday, 25 June 2007
I checked many of my sites today for Page Rank and they are still stuck on 3. I had one on PR4 before but have gone down to PR2 now so I hope my small adjustments and efforts have paid off. Some say that is to make any changes now and I will have to wait to next Google shuffle before I see any changes in the Page Rank. I hope they are wrong and if I did something right I will share it with you as soon as the shuffle of ranks is over. Write Comment (0 Comments)

He can keep all his addresses of houses, send emails, letters, and perform mail merges and lots more in just one software. Write Comment (0 Comments)

Great Color Picker
Pings: 1 - Written by Melissa Moreno Wednesday, 20 June 2007
I have tried a free trial download for a color picker today. I am thinking of buying it because it is a great tool for me and my fellow webmaster and the price is under 10 $. I have tried many color pickers during my 15 years a webmaster but most free once are not good or they have no support. Some even have spy programs inside them and now I stick with paid once and the once from safe sites like AdesBlog.com .This color picker has loads of great reviews so if you looking for a color picker then try this one.Write Comment (0 Comments)

Is the big Google Crawl eminent?
Pings: 1 - Written by Melissa Moreno Monday, 18 June 2007
Is it time now? Has Google already started to Crawl the sites on the Internet and is it already to late to submit new sites? Some webmasters are kicking out loads of sites a day just to be able to get before the Google crawl deadline and no one knows off course when that is going to be but ”they” think it is soon. So remember where you heard of it first it is time to put up a site out there for Google to see or you have to wait another 6 month to be indexed. What do you think? Make a comment and let me knowWrite Comment (0 Comments)
